The RDH to BSDH post-licensure degree program expands on the basic skills and knowledge acquired in the Associate of Science in Dental Hygiene degree program. This program is available to selected students who have earned an associate’s degree or certificate in dental hygiene from a school accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and a regional accrediting agency.
This program requires successful completion of 12 credit hours of upper-level 400 core courses and 12 to 24 credit hours of electives. It offers an innovative, personalized curriculum designed to graduate dental hygienists with advanced skills.
Additional credit hours are selected to meet individual student interests and meet graduation requirements. UNM offers many exciting educational paths to explore, and students have the opportunity to design a curriculum based on personal career interests.

A student must complete a minimum of 128 credit hours to earn a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene at UNM. Fifteen of these hours must be completed after receiving 92 hours. Thirty of these hours must be completed at UNM. UNM requires 31 hours, divided into seven sections, to fulfill UNM’s general requirements. Today’s dental hygienists will meet many of these needs. International students must pass the TOEFL test with a minimum score of 90 on the online test or the IELTS with a minimum score of 7.5. Test scores must be less than two years old. When registering for the exam, applicants must list the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Graduate School (Institute #5816) as the score recipient.
The TOEFL test is administered by Educational Testing Service (ETS), CN6151, Princeton, NJ 08541-6151. Applicants must take the test no later than October to ensure results are received by the application deadline, unless noted here as an exception.
At the request of the Graduate School, international applicants must submit official academic transcripts signed by the registrar or other academic official and stamped or inked with the stamp or seal of the issuing institution. Entries must be published in the original language and accompanied by a certified English translation.
