School districts across the country need good teachers. Populations are growing, and the demand for new teachers is constant. Older teachers are retiring, and many schools need new teachers to fill the positions. Becoming a teacher is one of the most rewarding professions you can have in a person’s life.

There is a reason many of us can remember our elementary school teachers. Elementary teachers have a unique opportunity to talk about children’s lives.

Elementary teachers are vital to society because they help format and teach the building blocks of education. Learning the basics of reading and math may seem boring to some, but dents will use and build on these skills for the rest of their lives. The importance of learning elementary dents is essential to the health of our society.

Ba Elementary Education

Although a child’s parents are usually the first to have an impact on a child, many teachers across the country spend more time with dents than perhaps their own parents in a given week. Simply put, a career as an elementary teacher not only helps secure the building blocks for learning, but has huge social effects on a person’s future.

If you are hoping to, or already have a family, choosing to earn a BA in Elementary Education is an excellent fit for flexibility. Many teachers with families may teach in the same school district, or even in the same school as their children. This makes it easier to organize holidays and after school care when you have the same time off as your children.

Although it is true that teachers are not required to work evenings, weekends or holidays at school, they often work these hours at home. Teachers usually grade papers in the evening or need to plan for lessons outside of school hours.

However, teachers get many holidays off as well as a long period of Thanksgiving and Christmas. Spring break is another time where teachers can enjoy time off from work in addition to summer vacation. Again, most teachers end up working on the breaks, but it’s nice that they don’t need to take vacation days for the breaks that are already pre-planned in the year’s school calendar.

Working with young elementary children usually means one thing: a lot of noise. Children have an excitement and energy about them that elementary teachers thrive on. Although many teachers have strict rules and guidelines in their classrooms, there is always a higher level of fun in elementary classrooms.

On the rare days when the kids are quiet, you can dive deep into lessons. Many teachers choose to get their BA in elementary education because they like a wide range of subjects. Unlike a high school teacher, elementary teachers get to teach a little bit of each subject, which helps break up the day and keep it interesting.

One of the best benefits of earning a BA in Elementary Education is that you can teach across the country.

Individual states control public education, which means your salary will be different from teachers in other states. On average, elementary teachers across the country make about $45,000 a year. However, teachers are paid based on a regulated scale that takes into account your degree of education and years of teaching experience. Most first year teachers will start anywhere from $30,000-$40,000 per year.

Teachers’ salaries are fixed in advance which means you will know exactly what you will make in a year according to the salary chart. This can reduce the anxiety and stress of other careers where you may receive less compensation than in previous years. If you study in a public school, this also means that your salary is public information which may be strange to some people.

One of the best things about becoming an elementary educator is the fact that elementary schools are located near and far across the country. You can study in the heart of New York City or in rural Alaska on a remote island. A career in elementary education allows you to move where you want to be.

With that being said, teacher salaries do not necessarily change due to location. So, the first year teaching job you take in the heart of New York City with a high cost of living will pay you the same as people in the country with a much lower cost of living.

Another item to consider is that each school district is managed differently. Schools in the same area can vary significantly in terms of environment and overall job satisfaction. This means that you are not usually stuck in one position and can easily transfer to another school or area from year to year.

Pathways To Teaching

As of 2018, there were over 1.5 million kindergarten and elementary school teachers in the United States. Licensed elementary education teachers are also approved to teach through 8th grade, which adds another 600,000 middle school teachers to that number. In total, there are more than 2 million K-8 grade teaching jobs in the country.

Elementary and middle school teaching jobs are projected to grow by 3% through 2028. This is less than the average labor sector growth of 5%-6%. Upper class enrollments and general bureaucracy limit how much school systems can keep up with growing populations.

In general, teacher job security is high due to the ability to change locations or school districts if necessary during a career.

The Teaching Policy Institute reported that 84% of teachers intend to stay in the teaching career field in the future. Therefore, 16% of teachers left the career field. Of the 16% turnover, 67% of teachers voluntarily either chose a different profession or took an early retirement package. Only 14% of the 16% turnover was due to involuntary reasons such as redundancy or redundancy.

What It Takes For In Person Classes

The United States Department of Education reported that the percentage of teachers who plan to continue teaching has not changed from 1999 to 2012. In general, teachers remain a dedicated group of professionals who want to stay in their field.

However, there is growing concern that teachers are worried about their jobs when they consider standardized test scores. Although teachers may feel pressure to “study to the test”, and therefore worry about their job security, it is unknown how many teachers lose their jobs directly due to dented performance and standardized test scores.

A dent looking to major in teaching can work toward earning a BA in elementary education. Graduates also need a permit to study in the state in which they choose to work. Continuing educational requirements are also part of a long career in education.

The elementary education program at the University of St. Thomas offers a blended learning approach aimed at working adults who cannot commit to a 16-week semester of study. This non-traditional approach allows graduates to teach K-6 elementary grades and careers as a reading interventionist, learning center teacher or learning center director.
